Hello to All!

I stumbled upon this thread as I was looking for help after failing to install Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit from USB stick.
I'll describe below steps I took and how I got to the current situation:

1. I was using Win Vista 32 bit on the Acer Aspire 5920G-302G16Mi with the following specification:Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2.0 GHz; Cache 4 MB; Bus Speed 800 MHz
Chipset: Manufacturer Intel; Chipset Model PM965 Express
Storage: 160 GB, serial ATA, 5400 RPM
Graphics: GF 8600 MGT up to 1024 MG (256 internal memory)
RAM: originally 2 x 1 GHz, changed to 1 x 2 GHz and 1 x 1 GHz
2. I decided to install OS from the beginning and chose Win 8. Iso version was found on the web, claimed as an official and untouched one, and then transferred to stick thanks to MS tool.
3. During the 1st try I was able to see every partition. I deleted the system one (I still have logical one with some data) and created new one where Win 8 was supposed to be installed. Unfortunately error while copying data occurred. Following attempts with less and / or different RAM chips failed so I decided to transfer iso image to USB stick using other computer.
4. Using newly created bootable stick computer couldn't find any HDD drive (despite the fact that while using 'browse' option everything was visible).
5. Many tries of different SATA drivers found on the web (including Intel and other sites) gave nothing. On the Acer support site (Acer | Download) I also didn't find suitable drivers as I couldn't find anything with "*.inf".

Is there any possibility to make my laptop see its HDD? I'm lost now because I cannot even go back to Vista OS or install XP for example (I tried out an old CD with this OS but my computer didn't see HDD)...
Any suggestions or helping hand will be really appreciated.
