Ok so i am trying to install windows 8 X64 onto a different hard drive as windows 7 so i can switch between the two at startup.Ok so my problems started yesterday when trying to install windows 8 onto the Hard Drive i was getting"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."To fix this i converted the disk to a GPT disk in Disk ManagerNow im getting the Error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more Information."And i have no idea how to get around the problem. Here is a screenshot of disk manager at the moment. Disk Management.jpgI am trying to install Windows 8 to Disk 2All help is appreciated.Thank you in advance. :) P.s if i missed any info you need just ask :)

ok i figured out all i needed to do was to leave the space unallocated.
Once i did that it gave me a warning in the installation and then asked if i wanted to continue. i pressed continue installation and it started installing windows 8 CP.

Although im having a new problem now. After the installation it restarted and started windows 7 and i cant seem to get to windows 8?

Hi Mrillusion

Did you have all disk attached when installing Win 8? On installation, Windows always first search for any previous OS installed then create dual boot option for later boot.

Try using EasyBCD program from within Windows 7 to examine whether your Win 8 boot file is recoverable.

Hi Kevin i dont exactly know what you mean, when i installed windows 8 i did it via USB drive which has been kept in the entire time, and i dont understand what i use the EASYBCD software for?

Thanks :)

Edit: in BCD in view settings (overview) it says theres only one entry in the bootloader

Look at Devices and if there are no problems I would not load Win 7 drivers. Just go with what MS has supplied with Win 8.

Good to hear you able to manage it.

You can use most of you windows seven driver to Win 8. But, sure if you need the latest you may have to download it from the Motherboard Support sites (Asrock) and from your Graphic card support site (Saphire).

Kevin

Edit: Jim already hit.

For all intel driver you have option to leave it as it is. and check on device manager which one is lacking driver. But for your graphic card you may need its native driver.

Windows Update will give you that same AMD driver but without the CCC.

I have similar issue, but what I wanted to do is to make clean install on windows 8. I had windows7 and when I tried to format the partition of the win7, it started giving me an error. Then I deleted the partition and I couldn't create a new one from the unused space. I tried looking on websites but so far, no luck. Any ideas?
