Objective: To make the printer installation less painful for you.

Summary:
(1) The language-less set up pages are poor if something doesn't work first time (it's like a diagram to put together Ikea furniture), but there are plenty of videos on youtube to help.
(2) The main problem is downloading the software from HP. It's 112MB and you have to rely on your wits to know what's going on.It's called EN4500_145.exe and in Windows 8.1 will go to Favourites\Downloads folder. A file with the word PART means just that, only part of it has downloaded. Then, if you try it, you get alarming messages that the printer will not work with Windows 8 - fortunately untrue.
(3) Worse, if you try to avoid (2) by loading the software from the CD, everything just goes quiet. I suspect the CD just tries to download the software from HP as in (2) and you're back to the same problem.

Background:
Windows 8.1, Firefox browser. Above problems probably caused by a poor internet connection rather than HP, though they could have written the software better to keep you informed.

Hope this is helpful.
Regards,
Nigel
