Hi,

I'm trying to understand the licence on my Windows 8 Media.
I bought Windows 8.0 last year, not an upgrade, and not with a PC

It's got a section on installing on a PC for personal use.
I want to un-install/remove from 1 PC, and install it on a New PC.

It's not clear how I achieve this.?
The only 3 things it's say's I cant do:
- Use as upgrade
- Legalise a non-genuine install
- Licence more than 5 copies for commercial use.??

So is there a method to follow to avoid activation issues.?
and it telling me this is already installed on another PC.?

Thanks... Dave

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software (together with the license) to a computer owned by someone else if a) you are the first licensed user of the software and b) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. To make that transfer, you must transfer the original media, the certificate of authenticity, the product key and the proof of purchase directly to that other person, without retaining any copies of the software. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Anytime you transfer the software to a new

You may transfer Get Genuine Windows software, Pro Pack or Media Center Pack software only together with the licensed computer.

You may transfer the software directly to another user, only with the licensed computer. The transfer must include the software, proof of purchase, and, if provided with the computer, an authentic Windows label such as the certificate of authenticity label including the product key. You may not keep any copies of the software or any earlier version. Before any permitted transfer, the other party must agree that this agreement applies to the transfer and use of the software.

That is the way.

Windows 8.0 Installation Media - Move to another PC "How T

Hi theog,

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear... I understand I can... But it was the "how"

I found this... Which involves a phone call..??

Existing PC:
> Windows key + X
> Command Prompt (Admin)
> Type/Run: slmgr.vbs -upk
> Hit Enter
This will uninstall the product key from the computer
Set it back to trial mode, you are now able to use
your key on the other computer.

Other Computer:
> Install Windows 8
> Windows key + X
> Command Prompt (Admin)then click
> Type/Run: slui.exe 4
> Hit Enter
> Select your 'Country' from the list.
> Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
> Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options)
> Wait for a person to help you with activation.
> Explain what you are doing

I understand the de-activate & re-activate, but by phone.?

Thanks...

To clean install:
1) Clean the HD Drive,(clean both PC's) using Step one in this tutorial:
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation - Windows 7 Help Forums
than
[DEL]2a) Clean install with the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disk.[/DEL]

2b) http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

2c) http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...e-firmware-interface-install-windows-8-a.html

Then activate on line or phone.

Hi theog,

Thanks for this, I guess I'm not making my self clear, or I'm completely missing something
Above is what I did when I first installed, it was a "New PC"

If I follow the above,
Will it take into account that I already have it installed and working on another completely different PC
Because if I follow above at this point I have done nothing to tell it I'm moving it.?
or
Is that where when you get to the screen with existing PC's or Install New.?
I would select the existing PC/Account.?, and that would de-activate the other install.?

Many Thanks... Dave

You may have to do a phone activation. It's really easy to do. Just tell the person you deleted Windows 8 from computer 1 and installed it on computer 2. They will give you an activation code to type in.

Windows 8.0 - Move to another PC "How To"

Hi,

Thanks...
Yes I guess so... Not very smart really
Would be far better to have a de-activate option(Old PC) & re-activate(New PC)
with a code being sent to an already authenticated/on-file email address.

Thanks...

Hi there
There's no "De-activation" process -- Phone activation won'tr be a problem if it's a RETAIL (not pre-installed OEM) version of Windows.

BTW a quick way of installing if you have something like ACRONIS is to take a system image of the old system and simply restore to the new one -- you might miss a few drivers etc but you can update those afterwards. Saves you re-installing loads of programs again afterwards.

You'll probably (although not always) have to re-activate Ms Office too if you have it.

cheers
