Hi all, I am having a bit of a problem and need some help diagnosing what the cause might be.
I am running the latest version of Windows 8.1. The previous installation was acting a bit sluggish, to say the least. The computer would take forever to load, if it would even load at all. Many times it would get stuck on the windows logo, just looping forever. If I reset the PC then sometimes I could get it to load. Even when it did, it would take forever to boot to the desktop and programs would freeze constantly, though eventually they would resume. After running every type of test (Anti-Virus, Malware, Rootkit, and even a chkdsk), and coming up empty I decided to just try a re-install.
The install seemed to load fine/normally but at the disk selection screen it took a good long while to format the drive. And now I am stuck at the Installing Windows > Getting files ready for installation(0%). And it is staying stuck there.
Any ideas on what the problem could possibly be? What would be the logical process for diagnosing here? I should mention that even though I ran a chkdsk beforehand, I cannot say with %100 certainty that I read everything correctly. The reason that I mention that is because my #1 culprit would seem to be the HDD (the OS HDD, as it has two - a 150GB for OS and 1TB for storage). That is only an educated guess though and not based on any definitive evidence.
Thanks in advance for any help. Truly appreciate.
[Edit] After well over a half hour, if not an hour, the Getting files ready for install (0%) went to (1%). So it is proceeding, i.e. not stuck, but this still signifies a serious problem - does it not?
