I am trying to install windows 8 customer preview. I have shrunk my c: drive using manage drives in windows 7. New partition set as F:, simple and formatted.
When installing from win8 boot cd, I select the partition i.e. F:\ and it comes up with something like, cannot install on this drive because one or more dynamic partitions are present? How do I get over this.

Thanks. Its a HP pavilion dv6. I have just shrunk the C: partition to create an extra one called F:. I may have too many partitions. I can delete the recovery one if required because I have a complete image. Funny thing is booting into Acronis Disk Director shows no hard drives present! Anyway screen shot attached.

You have the same problem as the user in last thread, So quoting myself:

As far as I can see those are your choices:
1. Convert dynamic disk to basic as whs suggested with partition wizard. You can follow this tutorial (option 4) http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2393-windows-8-vhd-create-boot-dual-boot.html

2. Trick Windows into installing into dynamic disk Devocalypse - Install Windows 7 on a Simple Dynamic Disk (Pro and Ultimate Only) (can be dangerous, so please make sure to backup!)

3. Install Windows 8 into VHD. In my opinion this is your best choice, as it is relatively easier, safer and less destructive. You can follow this tutorial: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2393-windows-8-vhd-create-boot-dual-boot.html

I hope this will help you.

Checking the drives after rebooting in windows 7 I see that the vhd disk is there in F:\ but because of the termination of the w8 program before completion, there is no way to boot into it.
