Multitudes of problems installing 8 under UEFI

After trying everything I know and could find I'm crying "uncle" and posting here. I have my first Windows 8 UEFI laptop with a crashed hard drive. Naturally my customer did not make his recovery disks nor make record of his product key. I have no less than 6 times made a UEFI bootable usb to reinstall Win8 but can not get this laptop to boot from any of them. I have used the tutorial on this site to make these usb's,tried other tutorials on other sites, and tried twice using Rufus.
I even removed the bootmgr file as was suggested in a Microsoft article (which would make the usb work for UEFI only.) I am able to change boot mode to CSM and disable secure boot and install Win8 just fine using a dvd but of course it will not automatically activate.
I've tried different drives. I know the new hard drive has to be formatted GPT which I was going to do during the install but I can't see that would have diddly squat to do with why I can't get the setup process started.
What am I missing here? I've only been at this for 14 hours now.

disable secure boot

A Genuine Microsoft Windows 8 x64 DVD, will boot with Secure Boot ENABLED.

To clean install:
1) Clean the HD Drive, using Step one in this tutorial:

than
2a) Clean install with the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disk.

I would need to ask if this system came pre-installed with Windows 8? If it was, the license key might be in the UEFI firmware. If that happenes to be the case, I believe there is a tutorial on this site about finding that key.

I seem to remember the priority for checking for a key during the install is first, a file on the install media containing the License key, second the UEFI embedded key, and third, a manually entered key. If your system has an embedded key, you may need to make the file and put it on the install media flash drive to install with something other than the OEM media.

You have not mentioned if you are actually seeing the UEFI version of the install media. When Windows 8 first came out, a DVD made during the download would not be UEFI capable. Microsoft has addressed this problem, so hopefully later installs did not have this situation.

When I make a bootable flash drive, I use the Diskpart procedure and just copy the Install files over. This alone will not work in Windows 7 to boot UEFI, but it will in Windows 8.

More information about exactly what you are seeing or what messages you get might be helpful.

I have my first Windows 8 UEFI laptop with a crashed hard drive.

Do you have Windows 8.1 installation media?

How to clean install Windows 8.1 if you have OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8 product key?

Naturally my customer did not make his recovery disks

Microsoft Windows Operating System Licensing Guide

Microsoft Windows Operating System Licensing Guide said:
When is a new Windows operating system license required and when is one not required?

A new Windows license is not required for a refurbished PC that has:
1. The original Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for a Windows operating system affixed to the PC, and
2. The original recovery media or hard-disk based recovery image associated with the PC.
The operating system identified on the original COA indicates the edition of Windows that was originally licensed for that PC and the refurbisher can
use either:
1. The original recovery media or
2. The original hard-disk based recovery image to reinstall the operating system software specified on the COA.
The original recovery option (described above) used to reinstall the software on a refurbished PC must accompany any distribution of the
refurbished PC. Prior to relinquishing a PC for refurbishment, the end user can contact the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the PC to
obtain the appropriate recovery media for a fee—subject to availability. Second-hand recovery media is sometimes offered for sale by individuals
in various forums and markets. Purchasing media from unknown sources is not recommended as it introduces the risks of copyright infringement,
improper licensing and infected/corrupted or incomplete software.

A new Windows license is required for a refurbished PC if:
1. The refurbisher did not obtain the original recovery media along with the system to be refurbished or
2. The PC does not have a hard-disk based recovery image.
The refurbisher must purchase a new Windows license in order to

Try to get my response to all in one reply

To theog & Saltgrass & genet- Yes, the laptop came preinstalled from Toshiba with Windows 8. I have a copy of Windows 8 installation media which I downloaded in iso. I can successfully use this iso burned to a dvd so the data is not corrupt. I used this iso with Rufus twice to make a UEFI flash drive. I used this same iso by unpacking it and copying it over to a flash drive after using the disk part procedure 3 or 4 times. (none worked) It was my understanding that the UEFI bios would automatically validate windows but since I never got it installed with UEFI & secure boot enabled it would not get to that point. I also attempted to install with secure boot disabled and UEFI enabled.
I have bios set with the USB as my first boot device. When hitting F12 at boot to bring up my boot options
the only choices there are
USB
ODD CDDVDW
HDD
LAN EFI Network 0 for IPV4

It never recognizes any bootable device as EFI

Forgot to say

Sorry, I forget to say that each attempt gives me the same response "start pxe boot over IPV 4" then "no bootable device'.
In bios under boot option the last boot option on the list is LAN. I can find no way of disabling it as a boot choice.

4) Just leave as last Boot Device.

1) To Create a Bootable UEFI USB Flash Drive using Free Program "Rufus".

- Connect your USB flash drive.
- Click/tap on the browse icon and select your Windows 8 64-bit ISO image file.
- Under Partition scheme and target system type, select GPT partition scheme for UEFI Computer
- Under File system, select FAT32

2) UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings:

UEFI Boot Mode > enabled
Secure Boot > enabled

3)

- Connect the USB and restart the computer.

- Press whatever key (ex: F12) it shows to boot to your motherboard's boot menu, and select to boot from the listed UEFI USB or EFI USB.
