If you are not wanting to keep any of the data on the hard drive you should be able to do this at install.

Run your install media and go through the install motions:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

If you read this guide on Step 8 it shows says "where do you want to install Windows" as you can see below there is option to Format your drive.

Hope this helps!

Cheers.

"Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS."

This is because linux does not use NTFS filesystem. Your partition is currently formatted as EXT4, which Windows cannot use.

If you want to do a clean install of Windows 8.1:

- boot the computer using the Windows 8.1 installation media
- press SHIFT+F10 to open command prompt
- run the following commands at the command prompt

diskpart
list disk (this will give you a listing of the disks on your system)
select disk # (select the disk you want to clean, for example select disk 0)
clean (running the clean command will delete all partitions on the disk)
exit

This should now show the drive as unallocated:

Click next and the install will start and format the drive for you in the install process.

Note: as you can see in your screenshot you will need to delete the partition so the drive shows as unallocated.

Hope that clears it up.

Cheers,
Harry
