Hi,

Basically I have a laptop with a 60GB SSD and a 500GB HDD. Windows is (stupidly) been installed on the HDD.

I can't touch the SSD in Disk Management, it has Windows 7 installed on it, so I can't even re-format it.

What I want to do:
1. Reformat the SSD (Currently in two partitions, one with Win7 and one as a recovery partition).
2. Install Windows 8.1 on the SSD.
3. Reformat the HDD to an empty drive to store games and files.

Problems:
  • Cannot reformat the SSD in Disk Management
  • Haven't got a Windows 8.1 install media

Thanks for any help, if you want any information just ask.

Just some observations:

1. You might run into a problem with low disk space installing 7/8 on the 60GB SSD.
2. As far as I'm aware you can't format the primary OS in disk management. That has to be done in the actual OS install.

Suggestions:

1. Dual boot with separate SSD/HDD using the F12 key at boot up to switch between each OS.
2. Get a larger SSD to do what you want.
3. HDD can be used as storage for both OS's
