Solved Install Win 8 64bit

I have a PC with Win 7 32 bit installed and I want to install a clean Win 8 Pro 64 bit on the machine. Do I have to do a complete reformat before I a can load the Win 8 or will it just do an install of the new operating system?

Unfortunately, it will need to be a clean install when going from 32-bit to 64-bit.

Meaning that the dive needs to be reformatted?

I just tried to load Win 8 64bit and I get a message: "The installation Media cannot be used to install windows. Your current version of windows is 32bit etc."

Yep, that means you'll need to boot from your Windows 8 64-bit media, format or delete the hard drive if you do not want Windows 7 anymore, then finish install Windows 8. If you like, the steps in the tutorial posted above will give you more details.

If you have a separate Data partition you can leave it alone. You'll need to delete the System Reserved and the partition Windows is installed on. Then create a new partition for 8 and format it. A new System Reserved should be created automatically. It will be larger than the one for Windows 7.
