Cannot Install Windows 8 on my Primary HDD

Hello Everyone.

When first I tried to install a fresh copy of windows 8, I deleted all the partitions including systems reserved etc

Now It shows 2 drives where both of the drives are now currently unallocated and are ready to create fresh partition:

Drive 0 - 500GB HDD <== This is where I want to install my windows
Drive 1 - 20GB SSD <== This is where the system is creating the system partition

When ever I create the partition in either drives the windows create the system partition (350MB) in ssd automatically. and when I install my windows on 500 HDD then windows wont work because the systems files are on other drive. Furthermore, I dont want to install my windows on ssd because of the limited space. So How can I install my windows in 500GB HDD so it creates the system partition also in the same drive i.e. drive 0 - 500GB HDD

NOTE: I have tried everything using diskpart and making the drive 0 active but still its not working. I dont want to send it to Samsung warranty because they are charging me like $100 so please can anyone guide me?

Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Well the easiest way I think would be to physically disconnect your ssd during the OS install. Then it will have no choice but to accept your main drive. Once the install is done shut down and reconnect it, windows should automatically recognize it.

Not sure if you feel comfortable delving in your PC tho (and some PCs manufacturers void warranty if you open their machines, not sure for samsung, check if there's a sticker preventing it on your pc). It's rather pretty easy, you only have to unplug the sata cable from your ssd drive.

Just wondering, do you intend to use your ssd as cache ? If you intend to use Smart Response Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia which is possible on most modern pc with intel chipsets, you'll have to use RAID 0 and GPT. Not sure about other cache technologies. If you want to use it for regular use, disregard what I said.

I have tried that but its not suitable option for me.. I cannot remove ssd because i will need to open entire laptop however i can remove ram and hdd easily by removing only one screw which will not help me .. So i dont think this option is suitable because i dont want to open up my entire laptop.

Note: my laptop is samsung ultrabook series 5 btw.. I am not a hardware expert so mayb its in front of me and i am not looking at the right cable

Ah don't mind me then I thought it was a desktop. Yes laptops are a bit trickier...

Can you access the bios ? There may be a setting to disable drives from there. Check what shows up when you boot (in many you have to press del to enter the bios).

Yes it opens the bios and i am actually pretty good with software bit in computing and i have tried everything using diskpart in dos but still no change.. So this is my last option to ask you guys for help.. Even googling is not helping me.. I just dont want to spend $100 on this thing which i know i can fix it by some help or guide lol.

Note: there are no such as many option in bios

Hmm I've browsed a little about your problem and all installation guides advise to disconnect any drive you're not installing on

OK, try this :
Delete all partitions on the HDD.
Create 3 partitions on the SDD (first 10MB, second 10MB, all the rest in 3rd)
Format the SDD partitions (Quick format)

Try installing. My hope is that windows will check your SDD for space and will see it's unable to install there and go back to your HDD. Not sure if it works, but worth a try.

Yup i tried that one also it gives me error that not enuf space

I've checked my system (2 drives too).

Here's how my main drive (where win is installed) is partitioned :
0 - 800 MB
1 - 260 MB
2 - 150 GB (windows system)
the rest is partitioned for my data.

I think you can try manually creating those partitions on your main drive (maybe a little bigger to allow flexibility with windows standards), and try installing again. That's all I can think of.

Also Tried that doesnt works. I think now only thing left to do is to disconnect my SDD. Actually I dont want to open the laptop it will void my warranty. (The Samsung told me we only provide hardware warranty so this is a software issue therefore you will be charged i think $100 or more.)

I think I have a solution for you, and I'm pretty sure it could work. (this is actually the reverse of the traditional replacement of a HDD by a SDD)

3 requirements :
* you must be able to remove your hdd during installation (you told me you can)
* windows can completely install on your sdd (I think 20GB is too short for that, but not sure, you'll have to check)
* you can boot from a cd/dvd or usb stick (this one may not be necessary depending on which sofware you use)

OK here it is :
* Disconnect the HDD (to avoid wrong drive assignment when everything is setup)
* Install on your SDD
* Once it's complete, reconnect your hdd
* Start a disk cloning app booted as live-cd or usb : Clonezilla should work, but others exist, just make sure to choose one that works with whatever you use (raid/gpt/ahci/uefi, etc.).
* Clone all your new OS partitions (hidden ones too) to your HDD
* Make sure your HDD is first in the boot in priority in bios
* Reboot.
