Hey Everyone,

I've recently acquired a tablet to pilot with my company. It is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2, and my issue is I'm trying to install and upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, but having no luck so far.

I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. Keep in mind, I don't even make it to the following screen:

Can anyone offer me any assistance please?

Thanks in advance!
Asif

When attempting to perform the clean all command, I get the following error message:

"Virtual Disk Service error:
Clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume."

This is a normal system reaction. It protects itself. You will need to use an external program from a USB stick - e.g. this one:

Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

Once I download this Partition Manager, what do I need to do / set, to get everything to work?

Thanks for your time and help so far BTW, it is greatly appreciated.

You can do anything with the disk from that program. For full disk operations (as opposed to partition operations) highlight the disk in question and click on the Disk tab on the top left. From there you can wipe the disk - if that's what you want to do.

It is not, I just want to upgrade from the current version of Windows 8 that is installed to Windows 8.1 Enterprise. I rather do this, so I can maintain the tablet's drivers without having to go hunt them down if I did a clean install.

If this was a desktop, it would be a no brainer to do a clean install, but as I'm testing this tablet out, I would feel more comfortable performing an upgrade install to Windows 8.1

Unfortunately, it has Windows 8 Professional. Is there no way to upgrade to an Enterprise version, specifically Windows 8.0 Enterprise, and then from there upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise?

If I'm understanding correctly, the only way to get the Enterprise version of Windows 8 on my tablet is to perform a clean install?

Thanks again.

And I believe you have to order it thru an enterprise. Not every Joe and Mary can order it.

You can upgrade Windiws 8 Pro Volume License to Windiws 8.1 Pro Volume License.

or upgrade Windiws 8 Enterprise Volume License to Windiws 8.1 Enterprise Volume License.

But you are try to upgrade from Dell OEM License.
