I have a Sony Vaio 32 bit machine 4gb RAM.

It gets stuck at about 80-84% when updating then it says "Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

I haven't ever been able to find decent info on the actual microsoft site. I have no devices plugged in, no partitions, etc. Why is this happening! Any work arounds? Would it be better to just burn the ISO and try it that way? But isn't that supposed to be the beauty of the "store" so I don't have to do that?

Error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 when installing Windows 8.1

Hello,

We understand that many customers are receiving error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 when installing Windows 8.1. This error is typically caused by an incompatible driver.

If you are receiving this error:
1.
First, please double-check the error code. There are many variations of error 0xC1900101, each with a different location code -- the error extension, located after the dash. The information in this thread is intended only for location code 0x40017. If you are receiving a different location code, these steps are unlikely to resolve your issue.

2.
Check that you’ve already updated all of your drivers. In particular, if you have an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, make sure you’ve installed the latest Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

3.
Check that you do not have any Frequently Asked Questions - What devices are supported by the SteelSeries Engine? that support the SteelSeries Engine installed on your PC. The SteelSeries Engine software is currently not supported on Windows 8.1. Please uninstall the software before attempting to update to Windows 8.1

So has there been any type of fix for this? I have done everything, tried the drivers, nothing. I have no other devices attached, and it will not install from the ISO either. Says "this app cannot run on this pc" or something like that. ANY help wopuld be great

Hey. There are a lot of ppl having this issue. I don't think there's a fix. I've heard it's been limited to primarily DIY builds and these solutions of upgrading the drivers just don't work IMO. I have not tried removing the steel series driver. Personally I'm just waiting until they fix the issue before trying to update again. Not sure what's taking so ridiculously long tho.
