Hi. I've tried installing Windows 8.1 through the store several times with no success only to receive the error that nvstor64.sys is missing or corrupted. Error code is: 0xc000000f (when it bluescreens). The computer then restores Windows 8 and gives another error code on startup: 0xc1900101 0x20017. I know that this file is associated with my graphics card (nvidia geforce g102m), and it is present in the System 32 drivers folder. The nvidia driver is up to date with the latest driver package and i used driversweeper to remove all residual nvidia files before installing it. Also tried deleting store cache and trying again, and uninstalling graphics driver alltogether. I have an ASUS k50in laptop running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit with the above stated nvidia graphics card.

People have reported various errors. Yea, you pretty much tried everything!
- Honestly, I >DON'T RECOMMEND< upgrading via the Store!

Thanks Gennin. Finally found a solution, I had to refresh Windows 8 using the retail disc and then the update worked. Seems like nvstor64.sys was not meant to be in the system 32 drivers folder because when i checked that folder after refreshing it was not there. Strange...

Ha, toldya. xP

Most problems/errors can be solved this way.( Retail Disc instead of Store Upgrade)

Yep :) I downloaded the Win 8.1 ISO and burned to dvd to perform the update instead of through the store.

Could you please post a link to the windows 8.1 upgrade iso because it does not appear in my windows store. I am only interested in the upgrade because I do not want to have to reload or reinstall my apps.

thank Jeff

Hi jeffocal. First use the instructions in this link to download the 8.1 iso: http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/33164-how-download-windows-8-1-iso.html (thanks to mosharino for this post). Burn the iso to a dvd (or use a usb). Follow the prompts and it will give you the option to install without deleting files or apps. You may have to use a generic key to install as for some reason the Win 8.0 key doesn't work (at least it didn't for me). The process is contained in this post: http://www.eightforums.com/installa...retail-windows-8-1-windows-8-product-key.html (thanks to theog). When installation is complete, change the product key in settings to your win 8.0 product key and it should work.

I already have a windows 8 pro dvd. Which when I boot from the dvd I an
given a repair option that will allow me keep my desktop apps however when it chose
it I am told that I must rebot and restart the installation.
However when I do that I am only options I am given is to refresh which does not
allow me to keep my desktop app or erase everything. The profile I am
using has administrative privileges and I have even tried right clicking on it and
selecting "run with administrative privileges" but the option to repair is still
not appearing when I start it form my desktop. Could you please help
me to understand why I have the option to repair when I boot from the
installation disk and not when I try to install it from the desktop and how I
can get the repair option from the desktop

Ok. I'm not sure why you don't have the repair option from desktop, perhaps a more expeirenced user on the forum might know. Do you have the same issue with the nvstor64.sys file that I did? If so, you will probably have to refresh windows. But if not, why not download the 8.1 iso, create a dvd and try installing from that? I ran from desktop and I got the option to keep apps and files using the 8.1 iso dvd, not the 8.0 retail disc (although that should also give you the option, its unusual that its not). Give that a try.

Thanks

I'm all set.

I was able to activate the windows 8 repair function in another profile and install the windows 8.1 from the windows store after the repairs were completed.

Thanks again everyone
