Windows 8.1 upgrade assistant

I am currently running Windows 7 and just downloaded and run the Windows 8.1 upgrade assistant. Only had a couple of incompatible issues, but the upgrade assistant stated I have to reinstall all the compatible apps and drivers! This didn't seem to be the case with the Windows 8.0 upgrade assistant.
What's going on here??? No way will I upgrade if I have to do this.
Any feedback?

If you upgrade to Windows 8, when you upgrade to Windows 8.1 a reinstall will be need.

Therefore Buy & download the Windows 8.1 & do a clean install.
