Do you have the original disk that came with your printer? Can the printer plug into the computer via USB? What brand and model is it?

Please provide more information,
Thank you

Have you looked for your printer in Control Panel > Devices and Printers?

Hi there

This method should work. Note you need to use the DEVICES AND PRINTERS in the control panel -- NOT the device manager.

1) Devices and Printers ==> Add printer

2) click on printer that I want isn't listed or choose SKIP

3) click NEXT

4) Chose ADD LOCAL PRINTER or NETWORK PRINTER WITH MANUAL SETTINGS

5) click NEXT

6) choose either use EXISTING port (drop down ) choose USB port if USB printer or if it's a NETWORK printer click CREATE new port and enter the IP address on the network of your printer

7) Now click NEXT

8) You'll see a screen INSTALL PRINTER DRIVER with a load of printers -- if the printer isn't listed you can then chose Windows update -- or Have disk.

I'd let Windows Update have a go first before using your own Disk as windows these days has quite up to date drivers for things like printers -- and sometimes the manufacturer's own drivers include all sorts of adware like --Buy special inks from us etc etc. I'd love to see the word BUY removed from any piece of software ever !! but not likely to happen.

Note if you choose Windows update BE PATIENT as it gets LOADS of printers -- go and have a glass of Scotch / Beer / Tea / Coffee etc or Kick the dog or something while waiting for the download to complete.

Cheers
jimbo

IE v5 is VERY old! If the software for your printer came out at that time, you are likely talking about XP-era software, which probably will not work with Win8.

I have an Epson printer that came out with Win7, and Epson provided detail steps to be followed to get it working with Win8 -- before they came out with Win8 drivers and software.

It might help if you told us the make and model printer.
