Twice now, I have clicked on the download button in the App Store (used a link obtained from the Verge article). My screen just jumps to the main App Store screen, and I see no indication that anything is downloading or in progress.

  1. How can I verify that a download is in progress?
  2. Do I have 2 downloads going now that I did this twice?

Honestly, I miss the old days before the App store ... download an ISO & read Brink's installation tutorial -- that was it.

Thank you.

Background:
Originally had Win 7 Home Premium.
Used the Win 8 Upgrade Assistant to upgrade to Win 8. (I have a Win8 key.)
Installed the 8.1 Preview (don't remember how right now).

Overall, very happy with this laptop -- great for work & was very good for gaming when I originally bought it (haven't tried any games last year or so).

Updating from Windows 8.1 Preview to Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Windows Help

Microsoft said:
I installed the preview from the Windows Store or I installed the preview using media while Windows 8 was running

You can download the update free of charge from the Windows Store. You'll be able to keep your personal files, but you'll need to reinstall your applications. Make sure you have any original installation media that might be required for applications that were not installed from the Windows Store.

I installed the preview by booting from ISO media

If you installed Windows 8.1 Preview by booting from ISO media, you can update to the final version of Windows 8.1 Pro using the Windows Store, but your system won't be activated until you buy a Windows 8.1 licence and Product Key. You can do this by following the instructions when you activate your system, or by purchasing a DVD of Windows 8.1 Pro.

If you don't want to buy a copy of the Pro edition of Windows 8.1, you should return your PC to its previous operating system before installing Windows 8.1.

Well, it turns out the install was happening -- I do wish MS gave us some kind of on-screen verification of the download progress.

After 20 minutes or so, the black bar appeared across the main screen: telling me to restart. Seems to be going well so far.

Thanks for the input.

I had a % progress notice in the top right corner of Metro.

I'll remember that next time.

Thank you. :)
