Mine has been an overall enjoyable experience, both with the upgrade and clean install. There were some minor issues after the upgrade, such as text size and having to reinstall a couple of things. The clean install, while lengthy, proved to still be a bit better, though. I had zero of the issues many described while running a clean install and was even able to restore the majority of my settings/customizations with the new Skydrive backup feature.

Upgraded my Toshiba laptop from Windows 8 Pro X86 to Windows 8.1 Pro X86. Upgrade was perfect, absolutely no problems. The only program I had to reinstall was 8GadgetPack. Everything else, including Classic Shell, worked.

Easiest install I've ever done. About an hour and a half, start to finish, over a 54MB wireless connection.

The last thing I did was use SIW2's ESD-ISO to create a ISO from the C:\ESD folder then create a bootable Windows 8.1 flash drive in case I ever have problems. See here: Option 2:

Altghough the upgrade went smooth (in take two ), looking around (in the Event Viewer, the Performance Monitor) I see that the installation is chock-full of log and counters errors and misconfigurations. They (and probably some other unseen things) don't show up in the day-to-day operation of the system, but deep down something is seething, unhappy.

Clean install is still the way to go. But as this Windows isn't and will not be my primary system, I'll let it continue like this to observe the happenings, the events and phenomena.
