Solved I have 8.0 but can't download 8.1 update. Need ISO or DVD.

Both of my Windows 8.0 computers (desktop & laptop) have Windows 8 installed. And the Microsoft Store shows that the 8.1 update is available to me on both computers. But they won't download because I believe my ISP is blocking this update. I keep getting the error 0x80240031 when attempting to download.

Is this 8.1 update available as an ISO or on a DVD from Microsoft ? I think this is the only way that I will be able to get the 8.1 update if my ISP continues to block me.

Thanks, I think you mean KB2871389. It's installed according to my update history. And my Avast AV is disabled.

Still no joy...on either of my Win8 machines. Gotta be my ISP (Verizon Wireless 4G).

The error seems to mean the download file is not of the correct format. Since you are doing this over a 4 G connection, do you have preferences set up to only download certain types of content?

Not that I am aware of. Everything else including regular OS updates have worked okay in the past.

The Windows 8.1 update is around 3.5 GB. Do you have a file size or download limit on your 4G that would block it?

I have 10GB monthly with my Verizon 4G. I'm not even close right now. But if I did go over the 10GB, they don't block me...they just charge me more...to the tune of $10/GB. That's a lot I know. But that is because I don't have cable where I live.

Just went into town and it is now downloading. I guess Verizon 4G is my problem. Since it is going so slow here I'm going to pause this and go back home and see if it will pick up on Verizon...

Anybody get an option to create iso?

I didn't, it just started the upgrade process without any options at all. It even dled the enormous NVidia drivers without asking. Quite annoying.

Just FYI, the 8.1 update that I started on my laptop in town picked up where I left off on Verizon 4G.

Draw your own conclusions. (if Verizon IT reads this, then my joy could end...hope not) :)

Currently it's just an update through the Windows Store, so I'm not sure if or where it may store the download for it.

The Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant will hopefully be the same as it was for Windows 8, and we'll be able to extract the ISO the same way.
