I am primarily a Mac user. Recently, I upgraded my VM to Parallels 9 and bit the bullet and purchased a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disc. The upgrade from Windows XP Pro went well and everything worked fine for a month. Unfortunately, a couple of days ago, Windows 8 would not boot due to a missing boot config file. I then spent a few hours re-installing Windows XP and upgrading back to Windows 8.
My question is this. If I upgrade via the Windows Store to 8.1, how do I re-install Windows 8.1 if things go wrong again? As my Windows 8 DVD is only an upgrade, I am not keen on the tortuous route that I followed over the weekend. Grateful for any advice.
As an aside, will Windows 8.1 allow me to upgrade from Windows 8 (32 bit) to Windows 8.1 (64 bit)? My IMac I7 is well capable of handling 64 bit programmes.
Thanks.
