I know this is an old thread, and probably not the right place for my question, but I've not found anything closer as I search through the forum, so here goes: Brand new Windows 8 machine (Dell XPS 8500) with built-in Bluetooth. I have a Motorola S9 stereo BT headset I wanted to use occasionally so as not to disturb others in the room when I'm listening to music. I set the headset up to be discovered, found "Devices" in the Windows 8 structure, added the device, and connected! Immediately I had stereo sound in the headset as I walked around, and speakers were muted. Just what I wanted! I thought Windows 8 was pretty darned smart!

The headset would never connect again after that first time. So today I deleted the device, restarted Windows, and tried again. Using the "Devices and Printers" page in Control Panel I added the headset again, made it discoverable, and tried to connect. It connected (the graphic on screen showed 4 bars of signal strength), but no sound came through the headset. Nothing I try seems to work, since that first time. Yes, the headset battery is charged, and the Properties window indicates the device is working normally. No updated drivers are found. Frustrating!

Any thoughts?

Think I figured it out.

In the Control Panel, Devices and Printers, I deleted and then added the device again, made it discoverable, and was able to connect. THEN, I right-clicked on the headset image, selected "Sound Settings," and was able to set the headset as the default sound device. That muted the speakers and all audio came through the headset.

Seems obvious, once I found the right settings window. Like anything else about computers, "If you know how to do it it's easy. If you DON'T know how to do it, it's IMPOSSIBLE."

Next I'll see if I can make the headset microphone work as well. Should be fun . . .
