Solved Questions about partitioning HHD

Just got a new computer.. has a single 2TB HHD.

They way its set up now is there are two partitions

“C:” Windows @ 149 GB & “D:” Data 1.65 TB

My question

To me it seems the C drive should be larger. Right now there is 105GB free but I have not loaded any of my programs yet. ( MS Office, AutoCAD, Sony Vegas, Google Earth, Rendering programs and such just to name a few)

Sense programs are installed on the C drive I don’t want to run out of room.

Can the size of the partitions be adjusted?

If so How?

Wanted to do this (If I do) before I start install all my stuff

Thanks in advance

The C: partition size is fine, you would need a lot of programs to full the partition.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.
Essentio Recovery Software

The Recovery USB drive can be very problematic, I recommend you also make a Windows System Image.

look for a 3rd party ,Backup software, which fully supports Windows 8, uEFI, GPT & Secure Boot.

I would take theog's advice as gospel; however, I am a bit curious as to how those partitions got configured that way. So, did you do a clean install and let Windows auto-partition your drive or did you somehow manually intervene? A screenshot of Disk Management would also be interesting to see. Please understand I am not trying to alter theog's recommendations in any way but I am trying to learn something more about how Win 8 handles the installation process on larger hard drives. Thanks.

Put your documents, pictures, videos, downloads etc on the D data drive. On my laptop I run a 128GB SSD for Windows and a 256GB SSD for my Data. All my User folders are on the Data drive. I just use the Location tab under properties to move them. Then if I ever have to do a clean install I leave my D drive alone and don't have to worry about losing them. Resizing your partitions might break your access to your recovery partition. After resizing you may find that the option to do your factory restore no longer works. I'd make a set of recovery disks or creat some recovery media before you do anything just in case.

It is not readily about Windows 8, more about UEFI & GPT. With GPT you can have over 100 Primary Partitions.

I’m going to check out the info in the links you provided And try that route.
if I don’t succeed I can always buy the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks

System Image - Create in Windows 8
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8
System Image Recovery - Restore Image on Computer in Windows 8
