Swapped the drives back around to boot from my original Windows 7 install and tried to open Word and it comes up not genuine and so does the install, so I had to do a Microsoft software download and then install to get the prior setup of Windows 7 genuine again and do a repair for Word, but now all is well with the old drive with 7 on it, just a small glitch.

That's odd... Were Windows 8 and 7 installed on the same drive? It doesn't really make much sense if they are separate hard drives - or partitions for that matter.

Different Hard drives pulled the 250 gig out put the 320 in and installed Windows 8 on that drive used it like that for about 3 weeks maybe more then switched back by taking out the 320 and putting back in the 250 and the not Genuine issue crops up. I was sort of baffled when my desktop screen went black and all the warning popping up.

Is the Windows 7 oem, is there a sticker on the machine with Windows 7 key that you can use to reactive it?

Sorry didn't I say I had to download the Microsoft Windows Activation update software and then all was good and it is retail I do beta testing plus have a subscription. Thanks for the help. Maybe i missed an update while using the Windows 8 and that had something to do with it I am going to report it as a possible bug or just a technical issue.

Seems to me that since Win7 was already activated prior to drive removal, once you reconnected the SAME drive, as long as the other drive was no longer connected, and rebooted, you should have been back to where you were when you removed the original drive -- no deactivation, no reactivation required.

I've had situations where I've removed and added second drives, and never had Win7 give me any trouble about activation.

This seems really odd.
