Does not show up anywhere, device mgr etc. The only way I can see it is to adapt it to a usb connection.

What type is the second drive? SATA or USB? If SATA, can you see it in your BIOS? If USB, have you tried unplugging it, rebooting, and then reconnecting the USB drive? Hope this helps.

2nd SATA not visible - W8

Not in BIOS. This HD was working perfectly prior to running REFRESH due to corrupted file system.

Was the second drive part of a system configuration before you did the refresh? Can we see a screenshot of the partition structure when accessed as an external USB device? Is the SATA cable securely connected to the installed drive? Can you try connecting it to another SATA port (if available)?

Looks good to me! Now, I'm leaning towards a BIOS detection issue because of the size of your hard drive (yes, I know you said it worked before the refresh). Is this an older rig by chance? Did you recently do any volume work on that drive (eg, delete partitions, add partitions, shrink, expand, etc). If there are no BIOS limitations, and it worked before, and you have confirmed the SATA installation is correct, I'm a bit stumped on this one. Any more information you could provide?

No reconfig, just ran refresh and when it came up the 2nd HD was not being displayed. I was leaning toward bios detect as well, but it looks ok. This is a DELL - Inspiron 660 and is 5 months old. Power hit during update started this problem. I am getting ready to throw the hd into an enclosure and make I a permanent USB HD, Why would they monkey with the bis on a REFRESH ?
Thanks for your help....

A power hit? That was never mentioned before? YEP! The enclosure appears to be the only way to go from here. Good luck and I hope my responses were (at least) informative.

The refresh does not monkey with the BIOS but I knew something else was missing from the equation and your "power hit" statement filled in the missing piece of the puzzle. Good luck.
