How to install Windows 8.1 Preview using a Local Account.

How to install Windows 8.1 Preview using a Local Account.

1. Input your email address.
2. Type anything in the password field, but not your real password.
3. The following should appear prompting you to create a Local Account.

4. Click on "create a local account now"

Hi Mr. Sardonicus,

That's a great piece of information because I actually got fooled twice during installations because I always looked at the bottom of the screen for that option. However, when Theog did a test for me, he reported back that he did his install with a local account. Now, although he didn't divulge his methods, I did a "careful" third install and finally noticed that option. Anyway, nice post! You may have saved others from the tightening MS grip.

The MS account only pop's up, if you are on Internet.
Go back one step using the arrow key at the top of the page., & unplug from the Internet.

Thanks for the updated information. I was connected to the internet at the time of the install.

If installing from the App Store, unplug from internet connection on first restart.
