Solved Missing Send To folder

I have a new HP desktop, 8 months old, with Windows 8. Send To has never worked properly. The only items showing
are BD-ROM DRIVE (E), or Removable Disc (F) when a flash drive is inserted.

I cannot find the Send To folder using, Run > shell:sendto, or with Search. I have used Refresh with no result.
As the Send To has never worked from new, it would appears to be missing from the software, or the software as
written is unreliable. A software update would seem to be what is required to resolve the problem

From the number of enquiries on line and in the forums, it appears to be a major problem. Can we hope for a resolution when 8.1 is released.

It did work perfectly with XP, Vista, and Seven after all.

Thank you Brink, I have installed the Send To folder using the download software. It installed without any problems, but I am still unable to open the folder using -------
Run > shell:sendto or > C:\User\Name\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo My own name entered of course.
The Send To option in the Drop Down menu also does not open with further options using > Shift + right click.
Using Search does not find the folder.
Is there another way to find Send To folder, and is what I require a repair to the link to the Send To menu?
Send To works fine with the DVD Drive and the USB ports

How does the "Move to folder" and "Copy to folder" option above work for what you are wanting to do?

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing what your see with "Send to" to see if it may help ID the issue.

Brink, I am sorry it is not very big. Seems to be same size if I send as an attachment.

Copy to and Move to work perfectly. The ones I am using though are from a bit of software that has been around for years and I have used on all my computers since XP. They don't have an email option.

Thank you indeed for your help. It is much appreciated. Regards, Viddy

Hmm, ok. What are you right clicking on?

What does it open when you use either below in the Run :)winkey:+R) dialog to open the hidden SendTo folder?

shell:sendto

or

C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

If the "SendTo" folder is not there, then see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to help.

Send To

Hi Brink, thanks again. Run Box messages - enter > Shell:sendto, Windows cannot find shell:sendto.

Enter C:\User\Alister\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Send To -

C-as above, refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network.
Check to make sure that the disc is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network
and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information may have been moved to a different location.

It has to be on the hard drive. I ran the re install Send To software, twice in fact, and that appeared to install
normally. Send To is on the right click menu and works with the DVD drive and USB ports.

Do I need to open the hidden files to make them available for search

Shell:sendto should open to your SendTo folder no matter if it's still set to be hidden or not.

If you manually navigate to the hidden ( <- see link) folder below, is it there? You'll need to set Windows to show hidden files to see the AppData folder.

C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

If the SendTo folder is not there even when you have Windows set to show hidden files, then go ahead and run a sfc /scannow command to see if it may help restore it since this is a system folder.

Send To

Brink, Will the folder will be named Send To? Under App Data either as Administrator or User Alister, there is no
Send To file in Local, Local Low or Roaming, or as expected in the programme files. Wonder it goes?

This computer, 6 months old, HP, runs an i17 Quad core in an 18 thread configuration. High performance for video editing. When I got it, Live Photo Gallery kept crashing when editing photos. Eventually turned out to be a conflict
With Nividea graphics or driver and Windows 8. Over a month or so HP tried new graphics cards, mother board,
hard drive without success. Totally resolved when the Nividea Windows problem was settled.

While this was happening, a number of system recovery, restore and refresh were run, and after each I tried
Send To, and it was the same as now. I wasn't concerned as I thought it was a simple matter of adding shortcuts to the Send To folder. If only.

Just a check that there isn't a software update to install the folder before I get into the Command line process.
Not greatly experienced in that area.

Regards and thanks, Viddy

Send To Folder

Hi Brink, I ran the SFC/SCANNOW a number of times. Sadly no result. When I run the Replace missing Send To
Folder, it asks permission and finishes with software installed, all as normal, yet there is no sign of the folder
anywhere. It obviously doesn't install or certainly not in the right place. Is there any chance of an updated
version of this software being available to do the installation?
Would going to Roaming Apps and adding a folder named Send To, situated where it should be, achieve anything or indeed be possible? I suppose it requires additional data.
Is my case the only one you are aware of? I see online there are queries from others about Send To, that seem to
show only the DVD drive as an option, as mine does, but don't mention if the system Send To folder is missing.
I am reluctant to at this stage run a full system recovery or a refresh, as the time involved updating doesn't justify having Send To working correctly. I suppose I am also not entirely confidant that Send To would be restored. Nevertheless I would be delighted to have it there as part of the System.

Regards and thanks again, Viddy

Yeah, go ahead and create a new folder with the name SendTo in the hidden location below.

C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows

Afterwards, do this:

1. Check the registry location below......

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

...to make sure that SendTo has the "Data" value of this below:

C:\Users\(your user name instead)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

2. Check the registry location below......

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

...to make sure that SendTo has the "Data" value of this below:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

When finished, restart your PC.

See if the default SendTo items are in the folder. If not, then use the tutorial below to restore them. When finished, see if you have them in the SendTo context menu.

Hi Brink, Hooray. All good so far. All the file addresses were where they should have been and the folder
now opens with the simple Run entry shell:sendto. Will be able to add to the folder and be up and away.

Once one is used to W8, access to Regedit etc is quick and easy. Biggest problem is how used one became to
7 or whatever. Very pleased not to do a system recovery, while I haven't had this computer for long, there are a lot
of programs loaded and even refresh would have taken a while.

Most of all, thank you for all the clear advice and immediate responses, I am really grateful.

Hi Brink, Still have a problem. With Send To > Mail Recipient, the Mail page does not open and the selected files are left sitting in the Send To system folder. I use Windows Live Mail and I have checked that this program has all
three Default Options checked.
Should of course have checked this after the installation. It all looked right and I thought OK for tomorrow.

Hey Viddy,

Double check to see if you have a small window like below that may be hidden behind any other opened windows. This is what you would normally see after clicking Send to -> Mail recipient with image files.

Hi Brink, No sign of that box, I know the one you mean. Nothing on the taskbar. The mail shortcut I have there
doesn't change colour or size, nothing in the Notification area.
The Mail recipient shortcut was downloaded from the list of Microsoft Menu Items,
