Possible to install on separate partition?

    Hi all,

Just a quick question...Is it possible to install the windows8 developer on to a separate partition on my hard drive?
Does it give you the option when you go to install?

I am sure I read somewhere that it doesn't but wanted to make sure before I try anything.

    Thanks

    Hello Burtie,

Yes, you will have an option of where to install Windows 8 to.

(step 6 here if installing Windows 8 from inside say Windows 7)

...or to do a clean install at boot

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Brilliant thanks Shawn. I want sure if it would give me the option.
Now that I know it does I cant wait to try it out on my desktop...I am a bit disappointed though as I just sold my windows 7 tablet last week! I would have loved to have given it a whirl on there...oh well guess I will have to just stick with my big brick under my desk! lol

Just one last question...after I decide to get rid of windows 8 and delete the partition will the boot option still be available?
Is there a way to return the boot manager back to the way it was before?

No problem. Yes, you sure can. The tutorial below can give you more details on how to.

Unless I misread that tutorial, such a removal is only that simple if you have a separate "boot" partition.

Will it be this simple if the boot loader stuff already inside the existing Win7 OS partition gets modified for installing Windows 8? Or will we need to go into the BCD in the Win7 OS partition and modify it ourselves?

    Windows 8, x64, DP8102 - Win7 Ultimate x64, Dual Boot

When I installed the 7989 Win8 leak, before installing the 8102 Dev Preview, I just deleted the partition on which I installed it and then booted into Win 7 normally.
No options were present - just Win 7 - after deleting the partition.

    I haven't tried that with Win8 8102 yet.

    Hello Mark,

So far, it has always removed Windows 8 from the Windows Boot Manager screen when I only deleted the Windows 8 partition/drive/bootable VHD from within Windows 7 or Vista without having to do anything with the BCD.
