What do I use for a product key?

I read 8.1 cannot be removed.
However, will a Macrium Reflect image recover from 8.1. to 8 if there are too many issues?
hi, i think with your skill level you leave 8.1 preview off you computer ,and wait for the full release ,good luck

A Macrium Reflect image backup will definitely recover from a Windows 8.1 install.

Just my two cents; I installed with a live Internet connection but typed the wrong password for my Live account. It gave me the option to set up a local account then, but the link is in the text of the message, so it doesn't really stand out.

If installing from the App Store, unplug from internet connection on first restart.

From the store upgrade to 8.1 from 8.0

I found that when you get to the screen to login with your Microsoft Account, you can click on "Create an account" at the bottom. And on the next screen, you can leave the whole thing blank and then just click the link at the bottom to continue using your local account.

    They really buried this one.

I agree with Ztruker that Macrium Reflect will allow you to image to the version you prefer, quickly.

I happen to like Win 8.1 and except for obtaining a printer link to copy and install, this OS runs smoothly and quickly for me.
