How can I download Windows 8 Core x64 German ISO

Hello There,

I purchased an HP laptop from Germany with pre-installed German Windows 8 64-bit. As usual it doesn't have recovery DVDs but a Recovery partition on the hard disk. Everything is fine and going well, but-

I am planning to remove the original hard disk and install an SSD instead. I therefore think if I can download a Windows 8 ISO that I can burn on DVD or USB and use it to install fresh n clean Windows 8 to my new SSD using the product key that I have received with pre-installed Windows 8 64-bit on my laptop. One possible way may be to make an image from my original HDD and restore it to new SSD, but I want a clean installation, I hate the useless software and utilities that come pre-installed.

I tried the "Windows 8 setup" utility, but when I enter my product key, it says "This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of windows 8".

In Summary

  • I have a Windows 8 laptop, which also gives me a Product Key for Windows 8 64-bit German
  • I want to have a relevant Windows 8 ISO, so I can use for clean installation on new SSD in same laptop
is it possible, if yes then how, please suggest how?

Thank You and regards

thanks for quick reply,

Windows 8 Core comes pre-installed
has a product key of its own, which makes me kind of own a license of Win8 Core 64bit

previously I had Windows 7 Home Premium laptop and I could download the original Win7 ISO from DigitalRiver or something like that website. I could burn that ISO to DVD and install it with the key that came with my laptop and it would work fine.

If you want to put a new HD in the same machine - the oem license you already should be fine.

You just need the installation media - it should pick up the key from the mobo.

If you have a friend with the install media - you could use that , or the oem should be able to send you something. There might be a fee, though.

Have you considered using the recovery media?

Indicates it can be used on a different HD:

HP Recovery media can be used to perform system recovery if the hard drive becomes corrupted.

Now this is kind of going to where I am trying to take....

I want an ISO image or such installation media of the Windows 8 version to which I already have the product key.

and yes I know if my friend has a DVD or other such media which contains Windows 8 Core/OEM 64bit German, I can use that media to install fresh windows to my same laptop.

But as I assume: -
If someone have installation media with Windows 8 Pro or perhaps Windows 8 Core/ OEM in other base language i.e. English, then I may not be able to use such media to install Windows 8 to my machine.

this brings me back to the fantastic idea of being able to download corresponding Windows ISO from Microsoft or Partner websites as it was Provided in case of Windows 7.

So, having cleared things possibly, is it possible?

I understand that exactly and I do have recovery media for my laptop, but guys.... fresh Windows installation is something that has its own special taste,
1. no unnecessary crap is installed by default
2. you can understand the installation process better, recovery media doesn't let you know anything

Do HP have a minimal install option which doesn't include the crapware?

If not, you will just have to hunt around for an iso.

Nops, I don't think so.
If there is, I don't know yet.

as far ISO, if Win 8 ISO is all that matter, internet has a lot to offer :p

but legitimate Windows 8 ISO corresponding to the product key I currently have for my laptop... is another thing. :geek:

well, thanks a lot all you guys.

so far I assume , that MS doesn't offer it, which is ONE MORE REASON WHY I HATE WINDOWS 8.

but I am still looking forward to having the possibility.

download corresponding Windows ISO from Microsoft or Partner websites as it was Provided in case of Windows 7.

Not as far as I know.

Not clear to me why MS think it is good idea not to supply such a thing.

May I make a backup copy?
Yes, you may make a single copy of the software for backup purposes, and use that backup copy as described below.

The problem is with the OEM manufacturer not supporting clean installs with no crapware, not with MS.
You can only do clean installs with OEM manufacturer DVD's, with OEM's like Dell or Fujitsu.

Creating HP Recovery media

HP Recovery Manager is a software program that offers a way to create recovery media after you
successfully set up the computer. HP Recovery media can be used to perform system recovery if the
hard drive becomes corrupted. System recovery reinstalls the original operating system and the
software programs installed at the factory, and then configures the settings for the programs. HP
Recovery media can also be used to customize the system or aid in the replacement of a hard drive.
