installation problem

my win7 suddenly became ungenuine so I upgraded to win8 using the win8 dvd and after installation windows wont activate. It doesn't say product key doesn't work or give error msg, it just loads like it is activating and then it stops.. Need help ASAP

Try doing a clean install.

Where did you get Windows 8 from? Did you download it from Microsoft or did you buy a install DVD? If you downloaded from MS then the E-mail should have the download link. Download it again but this time create media (DVD or Flash drive) so you can do a clean install.

You could try the refresh procedure mentioned here: Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade. Or, you should be able to use: Windows 8 Upgrade ISO - Download or Create.

I dont believe you can install an upgrade or update on a disingenuous windows 7.

at least it used to be that way with the older systems, it probably hasnt changed.

You can do a clean install or dual boot though..

I'm pretty sure an upgrade will work over a non-genuine version of Windows 7. Nothing to loose by trying it. If it doesn't then do a clean install as Znod mentioned.
