Backup and UEFI Boot Mode

Purchased an Acer Aspire V5 which comes with Windows 8 preloaded. I have two questions in this regard and taking the liberty of putting them in a single thread.
  1. Does the Aspire V5 support UEFI booting? I am asking this since I want to use Ubuntu 13 along with Windows 8 and the ubuntu guide says that if the windows is installed with UEFI mode then I have to install Ubuntu in the same mode as well.
  2. When I purchased my laptop, I wasn't given any DVD as back up. If ever I am to format/replace my hard drive, how do I get back my Windows 8? In other words, how do I make a recovery disk?

1) I would YES, as Ubuntu 12.4 x64 is UEFI, but not test Ubuntu 13.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

You can order OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.
Most OEM's will ship Recovery DVD's for FREE, (may be a postage fee)
You can Order Acer recovery disks from here:

You can use the Windows system image.

As Theog says, version 12.04 is UEFI compatible, but versions 12.10 and 13.04 are UEFI and Windows 8 Secure Boot compatible.

The 13.04 version seems to be having some problems on my system, but it may just be my system. I know Ubuntu in general does not like my RAT 7 mouse, and the SLI GTX 680 configuration may also be causing some problems.

Thanks to both of you for detailed reply.
In response to Theog, what you said is useful to recover the data, right? But it's not going to install another legitimate copy of Windows 8. I am not so worried about my data since I usually keep back ups in my office pc and via dropbox. My chief concern is not losing my copy of windows 8. Moreover, the laptop doesn't have any sticker on it with the windows product key. The acer guys are saying that you don't really need a product key for windows 8.So what exactly should I do?
