Windows 8 China PRC edition

Hi, new to the forum. Recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 13" in China which came pre-installed with Windows 8 PRC. Apparently this is a single language only edition. Trying desperately to find some sort of language pack or "fix" in order to be able to use the system effectively. Does anybody know of a way to change the language?

Alternatively, do you think waiting for Windows 8.1 and upgrading will solve the issue?

Thanks

Hi Pepys and welcome to Eightforums,

if it is a single language edition only there is no legal way to change the language pack. So I can't give you any advice there.

You might want to try contacting Lenovo. See if they can help you out.

Goodluck.

Hi Rover,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I've gone down the route of single language only and contacting Lenovo. It would seem the only way to change the single language system is to upgrade to windows 8 pro which will allow the change.

However, I'm thinking that Windows 8.1 will involve an upgrade of sorts and therefore should allow changes to the language pack. But WDIK?

Any thoughts are welcome. Basically, I don't want to spend $100 to upgrade to 8 pro if 8.1 is just around the corner.

I understand. Personally I don't think that Blue (or 8.1) will bring free language packs for everyone. Over the years it has been Microsofts policy that free language packs are only available for users with a Pro/ Business licence. I don't think they will change that policy overnight.

You can of course always wait and see before you decide to upgrade to a Pro version.

Isn't it possible to install English core single language?

I think it probably is.

You would need to hunt about for at least 3 minutes to find one.

Hi there
Some stores in Hong Kong and certainly in Shanghai will be able to source English editions for you -- probably for about 30 Yuan. !!!

Last time I was in Shanghai I was probably offered more "Cheap Software" in about 10 minutes flat than Ms, Goole and Apple had combined in their entire repertory. :p

Cheers

Hi Jimbo.

Yes I could probably pick up a "copy" for 30 yuan, but having a new pc and warranty, I'd rather just get an upgrade of sorts. I've decided to wait and see what Windows 8.1 brings now. My computer is working fine, it'd just be nicer to have an English language OS.

Thanks for your reply. If 8.1 is no good, I may well be taking a trip to Shanghai :D

May I ask why you thought buying a computer in China would come in English?

Did he say he thought it would come as English?

Seems to me he didn't know it would be so hard to change if he later decided he wanted to.
