yesterday I got annoyed by win 8 on my Samsung NP900X3D and I started to instal windows as I normaly used to do on my older laptop...and here the problems started:
- as the ultrabook doesn`t have a optical unit I must use an bootable USB
- I delete and redo the partition with the previous windows 8
- at first i got an GPT installin error when I tried to install the win 7. afterwards I started to serch on internet about this error and what it means and then I found about UEFI installing mode issues
- now, I did disabled the Fast Boot from BIOS and also made the USB as a primary boot device and disabled the SSD as a bootable device
- next, I started to install the windows but something weird happened: the win booted normaly and then is the first step with "windows is loading files" and then the "windows is starting" and at that point the process freezed ....

I don`t know what to do next! I followed these http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootabl... to make the USB bootable.

Please give me a bit of help.

Regards

Welcome to EightForums.

1) did you do step 11 in
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html

2) Are you booting the USB drive in UEFI mode?

now i am trying to put back windows 8

As you reset the BIOS to suit Windows 7,
Reset the BIOS back to factory default setting to suit Windows 8.

Where you say you install stopped is about the same place mine will if I have secure boot enabled. But my system will take me back to the bios. Not sure what yours might do.

It doesn't sound like a flash drive problem, but perhaps a driver situation, which might be related to video. It also doesn't sound like a USB 3.0 situation, that should not happen until the Install windows are open.

But I would start by turning off Secure Boot and see what happens. Maybe Theog knows how to do that on your system, but it might be something like enabling the CSM (Compatibility Support Module).

I unabled secure boot from the beginning. Anyway, thank you a lot. I had more success with windows 8 which I just installed and is working fine.

Hi deiutu

I just found your post whilst looking for some pictures to include in my blog post regarding Windows 7 installations after performing an SSD upgrade with the Samsung NP900X3B which is a practically identical model.

I was able to solve the Windows 7 installation process freezing on the Windows 7 boot logo by updating the BIOS. Unfortunately, it appears that the EFI boot code present in the '05' version BIOS contained some bugs, as by updating to the '10' version I was able to make Windows 7 boot in EFI mode from a flash drive.

Naturally, BIOS updates aren't without risk, so please be careful if you intend to try this in the future. I cannot accept any responsibility if your laptop becomes non-functional from performing such an update - nor can Samsung!

Thanks

p.s. I hope to have a full article regarding this issue up on my website soon. Do contact me if you require more information.
