Try going in "Recovery" and go to a point prior to installing offending program. If you need help getting to the recovery screen go to the tutorial section of the eights then click on "r" and it will bring up a screen that will hopefully be able to help you. If not then post back here and I will walk you through the process. . .good luck.

Oh BTW, "Welcome to the Eight Forums." . . .

For starters, you may want to try system restore--to a point before you installed PC health monitor. You may end up needing to do a refresh.

Refresh Your PC in Win8—Attempts to solve system problems by replacing system files without affecting user data files. Such files still should be backed up off computer. Installed programs will have to be reinstalled except those from the Windows Store. A list of uninstalled programs is provided on desktop. Your personalization settings will be maintained. System settings will be set to defaults. A Windows.old folder will be created at C:. You can delete it once you have everything you want from it--Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 8.

Stuck on windows 8 install

Thanks for the responses. In the end I paid for the services of an online service. It took them 27 hours online to solve the problem. I was told that it was something to do with the registry.

The last few versions of Windows have had installers that refused to do an upgrade-in-place if they found meaningless traces of incompatible programs that has already been uninstalled.

My solution? Clean install. Perhaps it wasn't an option for ChrisW, but it's what I always do.
