Solved Win8 Pro Clean install 64 bit

I have created and ISO image via the download link on the email receipt from Microsoft on my 64 bit Win8 laptop

I am trying to boot from this on my desktop currently running Win Media Edition 32 bit

My understanding is that this should work according to a video I watched.

When I attempt to boot from it and pressure boot from CD drive nothing happens and it continues to boot installed version.

I decided to try redownloading the setup file via the link on my email accepting that it will create a 32 bit Win8 Pro ISO image which I can live with. However, when I run the program I get a "The platform is not Supported" message.

Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I am doing wrong please?

When downloading the upgrade you need to

You will need to wipe the partition first to upgrade from x32 to x64.

From the video I watched I understood that partition removal was an integral step in the install process.

I thought that I had to have an internet connection available during the install for activation to take place?

If I need to have a clean partition and don't need an internet connection what steps do I take to wipe my existing hard drive?

You can Clean the HD Drive, using Step one in this tutorial:

Did you create a bootable DVD "from" the image or just copy the image file to the DVD?

Don't understand "pressure boot from CD drive ...." As alphanumeric, as I recall, asked above, did you burn the ISO to DVD? And, then, did you startup with the DVD?

And, you say:

Are you mounting the ISO and trying to install via a straight upgrade from that point?

Did the upgrade assistant give you any hint that you might have installation problems?

LOL. Thanks. I looked the computer up, and it does appear to have a DVD drive (not just a CD drive).

I now have seen several links saying that SP3 must be installed. This "article" relates SP3 to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update Rollup 2. And, see this article; it confirms that SP3 must be installed. So, is SP3 installed on your Media Center Edition?

No it is not SP3 but l could install it.
"Pressure" was typo meant to say when l pressed any key to boot from CD drive it simply ignored it.
The ISO Image was created via the Microsoft setup program so assumed it is "Bootable"
I thougt bootable means that the PC boots solely from the dvd and does not use any part of the installed OS and so confused about the need to remove the partition or have SP3 installed

Can anyone clear these issues up for me please?

They are different issues. theog suggests cleaning your drive under the circumstances refers to. I was trying to figure out if you have installed SP3--which, if not, may be the reason you get the message about "the platform is not Supported." In this regard, however, the qualifying OS generally does not need to be installed. But, yes, you could try installing SP3.

Do you have the Windows 8 x32 ISO saved, & burnt to DVD?

When a device is described as being bootable, that means you can boot solely from that device without having to have any operating system running first. There are caveats though. The device you are trying to boot it on has to support it. Some older PC's may not support booting from a USB device. If you have an even older PC it may not boot from DVD, and only except CD's. I have an old Toshiba laptop here that will boot from a Windows 98 install CD but will not boot from a Windows XP CD. Another older desktop PC I had was fine with XP but couldn't handle a Windows 7 DVD. It depends on the BIOS of the machine and what boot code it supports.

Success Finally

I installed SP3 and was able to download without "platform not supported"

I decided to try 64 bit install DVD created from downloaded ISO image having confirmed it contained setup, autorun files etc.

It booted and started preparing files for installation but failed on 79% with error code.

I decided to reburn the installation dvd and opted to delete existing OS partition and it successfully installed.
