Hello everybody, I've got this windows 8 CD I got from a tech seminar at my college and a genuine key from Dreamspark...my friend's got his CD and key too and he ran the installation first. But the problem is he didn't get the genuine logo (which he had before installation at- my computer->properties).. after upgrading to windows 8 from 7. He's really mad about it even though the update can be run. So is it genuine even though there's no green genuine logo like there used to be? His and my laptop are same i.e. Dell Inspiron 15r and that's why I've not run upgrade on my laptop as it's also genuine with Win 7 and I fear I'd have the same problem...I want to keep the genuine logo! :p

Does his product show as being activated? I don't have anything that says genuine at Computer > Properties, but my legal product is activated. I had a genuine thing under Win7 somewhere, but don't recall where.

Yes the product has been activated successfully during installation from the product key obtained from dreamspark and the update runs without any problem- it's activated.

Good. That's all that is needed. As mentioned above I don't have anything that says genuine at Computer > Properties, and my legal product is activated. Exactly where do you think you should see a Genuine indicator? I show what's below at Computer > Properties:

There is no such thing as genuine logo in Windows 8, it got removed by MS.
Ways to check genuine validity:
1. slmgr.vbs /dlv
2. Computer-Properties-Windows Activation
3. Genuine Microsoft Software (doesn't work in windows 8)

Incidentally, activation is supposed to be evidence of your Win8 being genuine.

Incidentally, activation is supposed to be evidence of your Win8 being genuine.

Not always, some programs can easily fool the Windows Activation to make it "seemingly" activated, although it is not genuine, such as Windows Loader.
