Win 7 won't boot after successful win8 install

I did a dual boot install of win8 with a perfectly working win7 laptop. I can see both choices in boot manager but when I select win7 it's telling me there's a missing component refusing to boot and looping me back to the boot manager... I can run windows 8 with no problem but 7 refuse to boot. Repair with windows 7 DVD does nothing, I already tried... I need help. Looks like the MBR is broken or something.:(

Welcome to EF, Moditgrandslak :)

Running startup repair for three times with restart should solve the issue, as Dave suggested, but as Win 8 is the later version, a successful Win8 installation should add the boot entry of windows 7 automatically .

For better understanding of the situation, can you post a full screen snipshot of your windows 8 disk management window ?

You could use EASY BCD it's a free boot editer that allows you to fully customise you boot options.

I am not sure that windows 8 uses a boot.ini . Wasn't it dropped from vista and onwards ? is it back again ?

Guess I'm showing my age! LOL! True... but there is still a section in MSCONFIG that might help the OP (Moditgrandslak) do basically the same thing...?

Be very careful. I installed w8 as a triple boot and my Ubuntu and storage partitions were replaced by one corrupt partition. I fixed the problem by using Testdisk to fix the partition table.

I'm having the same problem as speedy here, tried triple booting Ubuntu, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Corrupted my boot partition for Windows 7 and Windows 8 no longer exists, only Ubuntu works now. How can this be fixed? D:

I did a dual boot install of win8 with a perfectly working win7 laptop.

Have you created a new partition by shrinking Windows 7 partition ?
After creating/freeing space for Win 8 have you succesfully rebooted to Windows 7 before installation of Windows 8 ?

Can you post a snapshot from Disk Management - would be usefull.
