I have an old Fujitsu Sylistic 5112 Tablet PC and am thinking about upgrading it to Win 8. It only has 4GB of ram (the max it takes). Should I go ahead and do a 64bit install or just 32bit.

the processor is: intel mobile core 2 duo u7700.

thanks,

Mike

As it is abit old use x32, but first check for all the drivers on the Fujitsu web site.

BIG +1 to checking for drivers on the Fujitsu website BEFORE trying such an upgrade.

I have an older Fujitsu T4020 Tablet PC and even upgrading it to Win7 was a NIGHTMARE! Why? Because Fujitsu didn't support the upgrade. Fortunately (for me) they also had other Tablet PCs that did support such an upgrade and was able to reuse drivers for THOSE PCs in my PC.

I agree with the previous posts about drivers.

I'd also check out whether there's a BIOS upgrade available. If it turns out your computer isn't supported by the manufacturer for Windows 8, and there's no BIOS update, then maybe Win8 will work, maybe it won't... so I'd be sure to have a good full system backup/ system image (maybe two!) to go back to if it fails and you need to go back to the way it was.

Also if you have the ability to use the manufacturer's software to make a recovery disk with the current Win7 configuration, then now might be a good time to do that! (Although restoring that would take you to its original "factory" condition and lose your files and software, so a full system backup is a good idea too.)

How old is it? I am using a very, IMO, old HP laptop--say 5 to 7 years old. Running 64 bit with no problem on 2 GB RAM. Not doing anything very demanding though. No driver, firmware, or BIOS problems. No support from HP. I use original Vista driver from HP for synaptics touchpad; no problem. Have you run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant?

thanks guys. I purchased it in 2007. I previously installed windows 7 on it. Fujistu has no win 8 drivers, and some win 7 32 bit.

I might give it a try and see what happens. Really only want to install 8 to play with it. I hardly use the machine so figured why not.

yes. I ran the assistant. Just some apps not compatible. nothing about hardware or anything that is important. I am hoping win 8 has all the drivers and most I have to do is install the win 7 tools for fujistu hot keys.

thanks,

Mike

My desktop only has 2 GB RAM and I'm having no problems with Win 8.

I saw where someone who probably knows more than I do advise installing 32 bit; however, this desktop is a pretty old dual core system and I'm having no problems with 64 bit.

If it will handle Windows 7, it'll probably hold Windows 8. Just use Bing or Google and search for Windows 8 System Requirements and you'll find a few dozen or more answers just like mine. :)

My old HP dv9720us is running 64 bit with dual SSD no problems except drive for co-processor other than that works great run the compatibility advisor to be sure and check the drivers to make sure like others are saying and enjoy.
