Using upgrade licence for clean install on new PC?

So I have just got an upgrade licence and downloaded the DVD ISO and burned it and it seems to have successfully installed and activated on by long overdue new build.

I am to be uninstalling my old vista pc and putting linux on it. Until I do while I'm transferring things across (however long this should take, or I may even dual boot if I ever need it) should I face any licencing issues with one being cut off?

Does this effectively work as a new key and have any links to the old one in terms of automated activation?

Many thanks...
