Hi all...
I am trying to install windows 8 32bit on my Optiplex GX270 but every time when file copying completes and system restarts to complete installation, screen goes blank and then nothing happens.

Please help me out on this issue.

It may not be possible to install Win 8 on this model. Dell ONLY supports XP on this model. They do not support Vista/Win 7/Win 8. There are Dell proprietary drivers that may be needed for some hardware and without the Dell proprietary drivers, non-Dell may not work and one of your problems.

The GX270 is indeed too old and is not supported.

As others have remarked, that OptiPlex is old.

The main problem that I see with it is that there are no WDDM drivers for the onboard 865g graphics. However, I think that shouldn't prevent Win8 from installing, if you have enough RAM (1GB for 32 bit).

Do you have an OS installed that would permit you to run the Upgrade Assistant? That might tell you more than I could guess.

I know that some other Dells seem to need a BIOS update to allow Windows 8 to install, without which they boot to a blank screen:

Computer Boots to a Black Screen After Windows 8 Upgrade | Dell

That article doesn't mention Optiplex models, but I'm not sure whether it means they aren't affected by the problem, or if it means that they don't support fixing it on that model. If the latter, then as others have said, it may be that it just won't run.

The most recent BIOS update for the system is from 21 July, 2006. Before Vista was released (January 2007).

Dear Bobkn - 32 bit Windows 7 is installed on my system and i have 2GB Ram. System is working absolutely fine.

Not sure about WDDM driver, kindly confirm how to check WDDM driver compatibility?

If you're using the onboard (865G) graphics, there are no WDDM drivers.

(The above is for Win7, but it also applies to Win8. Older Intel graphics controllers could still be supported under Win7 using XP drivers, but Microsoft eliminated that from Win8.)

I imagine that the Upgrade Assistant would flag the graphics as having no driver. You can run the U. A. without using it to purchase the Windows 8 upgrade.

Yes you can install windows 8 and 8.1 if you have 1 GB of ram and normal video card or built-in card. No consideration is required to update graphic card. Only need to do is to reset your bios settings to defaults. Then go with the installation. If any hardware conflict is present you need to resolve first. You must have at least 160Gb HD so that auto updates does not finishes your HD space. Always keep a track of updates.
If widows 7 is done with a configuration of 1gb ram and processor of 2.80 GHz you only need to change in system properties click advance tab press settings button now in performance option click advanced tab change virtual memory by initial 1533 and max size by 2048 just set and apply and you will find after next reboot your PC is running fast like windows Xp.

Enjoy

Same settings needs to be done in windows 8 and 8.1
