Solved "Recovery" Partition in GPT disk for UEFI installation.

Hi,

First of all, let me say that I understand written English, but very poorly written and would like to apologize ...

Is it possible not to have the partition "recovery"?

Because if you look at the two tutorials:

- UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

In the tutorial to install Windows 7 in UEFI, there is not that damn partition recovery, while in the tutorial for Windows 8, we can see it.

When I install Windows 7 (MBR mode), I avoid this partition "recovery" by creating a partition with a name before installation. I install the OS on it and everything is fine, no partition "recovery" But here, since one must delete all partitions, is there a solution? If I create a GPT disk with a partitioning tool before installing, is that it might be appropriate?

Tomorrow I get a DVD (OEM) of Windows 8, and so far I've never installed UEFI, I would avoid the nonsense.

Thank you for your answers.

Welcome to the forums. Someone will help out on your question soon, I think. I am not fluent enough (yet :D ) with UEFI/GPT to help out.

Thank you anyway. There are few people who are good with GPT disks. Besides, I wonder if a 120 GB SSD is justified, and I read this:

SSDs are to be avoided on the grounds of incompatibility with some utilities Toolbox GPT partitioning, excluding any data corruption problems that might occur with buggy firmware.

So I do not know, now

I have used SSDs for over a year now, and not seen any problems. But differences in some of the firmware, possibly older, might come into play.

The recovery partition is only 300 MB which isn't really that much. I believe it is set up that way in case something corrupts your OS partition, so you can still boot to the Recovery Environment. But other folks may have other opinions.

The recovery partition can be avoided, but you would have to partition the drive yourself using Diskpart probably. The EFI partition is required for a UEFI install. If you were to decide to try this, let us know.

Thank you. I used to make disk images, which is why I never use the recovery partition. And what seems surprising is that in the tutorial dedicated to Windows7, it is absent, and one dedicated to Windows 8, we see it.

300 MB, on a 120 GB, 111 GB once formatted, I think it looks a bit too much for something that has always been useless to me so far.

I Have an Intel SSD 330, with the latest firmware, and and I thought to create a GPT disk with Easeus Partition Manager, or on Windows with the disk management.

You can use Diskpart during the install. On the first window, where it tells you to select a language, hit shift+F10 to open a command prompt window. You can of course try Easeus if you want, but not sure it will create the special partitions.

Note: Do not try to use Diskpart from within Windows. It will not behave the same as in the Recovery/Install Environment.

I am assuming this is a new drive, or at least cleaned. Hit enter after each command. Make very sure which drive you are working on.

Diskpart

lis dis
sel dis 0

This is where choose the disk number for the desired disk from the list.

convert gpt

create par efi size=100 offset=1024
format fs=fat32 quick

create par msr size=128
format fs=ntfs quick

create par pri size=110000

If you want to use the rest of the drive as the OS partition, do not add the size option. But 110000 > 109 GB
format fs=ntfs quick

exit
exit

You should then be able to continue the install and select the OS partition you created for the install.

I wanted say that I was never able to boot and install in UEFI Mode, I think it came from my hardware. I abandoned the idea of installing in UEFI on GPT partition.
