Dual Boot Win 8 with Vista or VM Ware?

I have a copy of Win 8 Pro on a 120Gb SSD. Used in conjunction with a 1TB HDD for file storage. Running fine and dandy. I also have an older 64 GB SSD installed currently doing nothing.

I am thinking of installing a copy of Win Vista Pro 32bit on the 64 GB SSD as I have a couple of old progs that are not 64 bit compatible. A viable idea? Which version of Windows has to be installed first? Or does this not matter?
How thus would it be possible to share date from a prog running in Vista with one running in Win 8?

Or would it be better to do what I did recently and run a copy of Win XP Pro (or Vista) via VM Ware?

Thanks.

As the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3 has uEFI/BIOS firmware, I would go with a VM install.

Okay, thanks. Would you go with XP or Vista 32 bit? Also, can VM Ware be used with Vista installed on another partition / disk?

I would use XP. Some of my old apps wouldn't run on Vista either. I believe it can be used. You're going to use Hyper-V (the one that comes with Windows 8 Pro) for the VM, right?
