App not allowing screen switching on initial start

I have been finding out that Win8 will not install over the "Preview" version smoothly, by that I mean things don't work properly. I will explain later, right now to the problem. I use the Weather app and when I first start it, I cannot switch screens unless I press the Win key; clicking on top left or bottom does not work; Alt+Tab does not work; and selecting Start from the Charms bar does not work. Is there a resolution???? thanks...

Now about the install. I did a install over Preview and just about every file had some sort of corruption when I ran sfc /scannow. I did a reset which says it does a complete install from scratch, but I don't believe it because I was having many security problems. I went back and did a refresh and now things are a whole lot smoother. So if you are having problems, I would suggest that you do something to the install and try again.

Problem, it works the first time and after that you have to change the setting on/off to get it to work again. Before I install the .reg file, does it do anything different than changing the setting in General?

Hummm! I don't know why that would happen. System corruption? Run sfc /scannow again? Glad I could help to some extent. Sorry it's not working just right yet.

Does it continue to work after getting it going. If so, then that's at least more progress. If not, then I don't get it.

It works fine after going to the "Desktop" with the Win key; I cannot access anything else. The Charms bar will show, but nothing works. When trying to Alt+tab it only flashes on the screen for half a second. Now, that being said, if I double click the left hand popup for the Desktop, it will sometimes work. The problem I find with the double click is that the image goes away if I move the cursor more that a quarter of the image from the left edge.

That's amazing. If clean install didn't do the trick, then, well, the root cause might be with your BIOS (or UEFI) or hardware. I have trouble believing that the problem is hardware related. Flash your BIOS? Risky, and what's up must be thoroughly understood. Read here and here. You'll need to decide. I am not recommending; only providing info for your consideration.

I am assuming that everything was OK before stating to use either version of 8. And, you didn't make any BIOS (or UEFI) changes while running any version of 8, right? Please tell us a bit more about your system. Using BIOS or UEFI?

One more thought. Before doing anything else, run the Win8 Upgrade Assistant. And, run the Compatibility Troubleshooter from Control Panel > System and Security > Action Center.

I don't have any issues with Win7 and if I had any money I would be that it is the display driver. Dell doesn't support this machine on Win8 and the driver installed by Win8 is not the same as the one for Win7. I also noticed that I had a graphics crash and lockup of a program that has always worked before. I am going to do some looking on Intel's (display adapter) site for a new driver.

Hope that works. You can still do these things before proceeding: run the Win8 Upgrade Assistant. And, run the Compatibility Troubleshooter from Control Panel > System and Security > Action Center.

I ran the upgrade assistant prior to installing Win8 and it only gripped about programs. The machine is a 2010 Dell Inspiron 1750; one issue I have noticed in the past is that some older programs have graphics problems because of the full 1080p display.

Well I didn't find any new drivers, maybe one will show up. Another question, do you know of any way to make the apps "not" full screen?

That's what I thought and why this version is not designed for a PC but a Android.

I was thinking along the line of one that programmed this world.

Don't want to shoot this computer considering what I paid for it and what I got - $1300, 500gb HD, 4gb ram, 17.3 1900x1080, directly from Dell as a refurbished.
