My wife's new Win 7 64 bit laptop came with a Win 8 Pro upgrade offer which has been taken up/ successfully installed and we also bought the backup DVD media.

Firstly, I have to upgrade the mobo/processor on on my Win 7 64 bit desktop pc to make it Win 8 compatible.
Can I use that same DVD media with another, to be purchased, product key (Win 8 Pro) to then do a clean install of Win 8 Pro on my enhanced PC, or is it necessary to actually d/load the software again.
Kindly advise. Thanks
Pedro

If you made the iso from the files you downloaded - you can use that on any machine. No need to download it again.

You will need a separate product key for each machine of course.

Excuse my ignorance - 'iso'? The 'backup' DVD media is actually purchased from Microsoft which was an option with the Win 8 purchase. I appreciate the need for a separate product key.

With the upgrade you can download the ISO free or buy the DVD.

If you have the dvd already - no need to download anything else.

You can use the dvd an any number of machines provided you have a separate product key for each.

Ok SIW2 I think you made this pretty clear but I can you confirm the following scenario is ok:

I have 2 machines, 1 running Win XP 64 bit (call it MC1) the other Win XP 32 bit (call it MC2). Both machines are 64 bit capable and Win 8 compatible drivers are available for all my devices.
1. I buy a Win 8 upgrade DVD and do a complete clean 64 bit install on the current XP 64 bit machine (MC1).
2. I run the online upgrade tool on the XP 32 bit machine (MC2) and purchase a Win 8 upgrade for that. I understand that the ISO image I will get is only 32 bit.
3. I use the upgrade DVD from step 1 to clean install 64 bit on MC2 using the product key from step 2.

Now I have 2 64 bit machines both running Win 8.

Sound ok?

You don't actually need to d/l the installation files it on XP machine number 2.

You can stop the upgrade thing after you apply for your product key - before it starts downloading.

Are you able to use the 32bit key with the 64bit OS ?
