installing windows 7 with windows 8 preinstalled

    hi,
my laptop came with preinstalled windows 8 in it. Now I want to install windows 7 and also want to keep widows 8. But when I started Windows 7 set up an error came saying you can't install this version of Windows on GDI partitioned hard disk. what should I do?

Do you mean GPT? Here is something that may help you with your dual boot. Am I correct in assuming you started to a Win7 install DVD (not the upgrade variety) or a Win7 install Flash Drive (not the upgrade variety)? You may want to think very carefully before rushing into trying the dual boot you are interested in. In this regard, check out my sig below.

The tutorial is the wrong way round.

It is for installing Windows 8 after w7.

Yes it is. It was to get him to think about dual boot things in general. But, yes, I should have been clearer about my intention. I didn't mean to imply that he could proceed using the tutorial, per se. It's been a hard day's night. Thanks for jumping in.

You can install Windows 7 x64 in dual boot first or second.

Follow Step one to five in this tutorial:
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7

Than follow this tutorial: (installing in uEFI mode.)
Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista

To change the Boot menu from Windows 7 screen to Windows 8 screen, you can use tool here:

As I recall, you once said that you could intall 8 before 7 for a dual boot. How do you do so, briefly? And, how would things differ, if they would, under uEFI/GMT versus Legacy. I may want to do a Windows 8/Win7 dual boot, but I don't want to go to the trouble of downgrading to Win7.
