I bought a new SSD and want to do a clean install on it, however am having problems during the install process and receive the following message:

Windows 8 cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007025d

The install images was downloaded from the Microsoft website and I have tried using a USB thumb drive and DVD install disc and both receive the same error. I have used the DVD disc when I originally installed Windows 8 Pro on the same desktop but on an IDE harddrive and believe the disc should still work (i.e. no scratches on it).

Here's how I prepared to install:

1. Unplugged all harddrives except for brand new SSD (Crucial M4 128 GB SSD)
2. Changed bios settings to AHCI (before was on IDE) (using Asus P5k-V motherboard)

I'm not sure what's going on if the harddrive is corrupt, the bios settings need to be tweaked, the drive is incompatible with my motherboard or something else.

Any help would be much appreciated as I don't want to go back to using the IDE drive to boot windows but rather use the new SSD.

TIA

I also tried plugging the SSD into another SATA port. When I tried installing Windows 7 on the same SSD, I got a similar error as well during the install, which spits out the error around the 10% progress mark

Thanks for the response theog. I tried first with a download that was burned onto a DVD. I also redownloaded the ISO and put it on a USB drive. Both of these have brought up the same error. Would you recommend trying to donwload and install it a third time?

It may be because Windows stores some files on RAM, and an external SSD is portable, not attached to a RAM set.

@averchat. I've tried deleting all partitions before the installation using the windows utility just before the main installation starts. Do you think another kind of formatting would help?

You may need to load drivers for your SSD drive in the install process
The CD that came with the SSD should contain the driver for your SSD drive.
When installing win 8 after you start the install you will come to a screen
That gives you a choice of what drive to install it on to, on that screen
Bottom left hand side it gives you a choice to Load Drivers
Select (Load drivers) and load the drivers for your SSD drive.

Ok - I'm still having problems and getting to the same error point during the install. Here's what I've tried:

1. Updated the firmware for the SSD
-still got to the same error during the "Getting files ready for installation" part of the setup
2. Redownloaded Windows 8 image, re-formatted usb drive, re-created bootable usb drive
-still got to the same error during the "Getting files ready for installation" part of the setup

@averchat, my SSD didn't come with anything other than the drive (no cables, no manual, no cd) - where would I find alternative drivers? I didn't see any on the crucial website.

If your ssd drive came without drivers it does not need them
This era 0x8007025d seems to have no answer.

Hmmm - still no luck. I tried downloading the install files from windows again, but it doesn't doesn't verify after it is downloaded. Do you think trying to install this using another computer (motherboard/processor) but same harddrive would work?

Downloading the ISO multiple times is not going to help much and is blind because you don't know if the download is corrupted or not. The proper way is to confirm that the file hashes match with the official file hashes.

It might be a Bios issue with (AHCI) not set.
