Greets and merry xmas.

I've been banging my head off the table trying to get AHCI enabled on my new install im running a.

Asus Crosshair V Formula AMD 8 core cpu 2x 6970's XFire 16gig ram 2 OCZ Agility 3's (none raid) and an OCZ 4.

i have downloaded the latest AHCI drivers from AMD installed them i have tried doing all the reg tweaks Storeahci the start override ect but every time i reboot it goes back to normal and no AHCI it is set in the bios ect and windows reports in device manager IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers AMD SATA Controller but no ahci could you guys point me in the right direction before i introduce a massive hammer to my pc.

Thanks for your time.

Mike.

I DID NOT change the bios from AHCI to IDE the BIOS reports AHCI on all ports and enabled windows does not show the controllers I have tried to change the reg in windows 8 to use the AHCI by changing the STORAHCI and the Start Override without success it just reverts the StartOverride from 0 back to 3 the Start key stays 0 but still no AHCI.

I've tried changing adpahci as well as i thought that would be the driver reg key as I have googled it a lot over the last 24 hours without success.

my current device list.

I think this is the AMD AHCI reg. Changed start to 0 override to 0

All the google sites i have been to want you to change the STORAHCI reg entry start to 0 override some sites say delete it some say set it to 0 i've tried all ways with out success.

I suppose we may be a little confused since you have already taken steps to change your system.

But almost all new systems come with AHCI set as the default controller in the bios. With both Windows 7 and 8, the OS should install fine without you doing anything else. If this did not occur in a normal manner, please state where it went wrong.

ASUS does not show any SATA drivers for Windows 8 on your motherboard, which means the drivers are already in Windows 8. It does show an ASMedia SATA driver for the eSATA and other Sata 6 Gb port. But ASMedia controller is different from the AMD controller.

If you had loaded your system as a RAID Ready system, those drivers may show up under the Storage Controllers entry in device manager.

You probably have a cell phone, so perhaps you could take a picture of your Bios setup page where it shows the AMD controller setup and the page where it shows the ASMedia controller setup.

Still not sure how IDE was introduced into the situation. If we need to get into the registry, that should not be a problem, but setting a controller to START = 0 allows it and 3 turns it off.

yeah that is where i'm getting confused my other machine with the crosshair IV formula in it installed drivers np AHCI is running its in the device manager list without me touching a thing but the V shows it as not running AHCI. I have reinstalled windows 8 again just to be sure i have not stuffed somthing up no ahci again everything is default i will get a pic of my bios when i get home from work.
