Hi guys,
As per title. My old motherboard died and I recently got Win8, upgraded from Win7 and it's installed on my HDD. I had a few problems but the new motherboard and windows are working fine so far. I also purchased an SSD just in case I did have to reinstall Windows as I wasn't sure it would be activated (As far as I know it is linked to motherboard).

I'm wondering if it is possible to put Win8 on the SSD without any problems.
I tried to download the .ISO from my Microsoft Email but it won't accept my product key (I assume doesn't link my motherboard)
Other than that I'm not sure what else I can do to get it onto the SSD, unless there is a way where I don't have to re-activate.
Can Microsoft update my product key to match the new motherboard at all? Or issue a new one?

Thanks in advance
Frogsta

Edit; Is it possible to simply set up a dual-boot, both with Win8?
Obviously I would prefer having Win8 on the SSD

Most likely your new MOBOhas a uEFI BIOS.
Did you upgrade with Windows 8 x64?

Yeah 64bit Windows 8. I did some reading and don't believe the ASUS Rampage III Extreme has uEFI

So you are replcing your old Sabertooth X58, with a old ASUS Rampage III Extreme.
First make sure all parts will work with that MOBO.

Should start right up, but you may need to do a Automatic Repair.

Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.

You would need two licences.
