Hi,

I am new to dual booting and everything ive read is based on starting with windows 7 os and then adding the windows 8 which isn't working for me. I just bought a Toshiba Windows 8 laptop and now need to have windows 7 also (due to my business tax software isn't compatiable with Windows 8 as of yet). How do I not lose my windows 8? I just also bought the windows 7 home premium os disk. Please HELP!!!! Urgent as I'm needing to get back to working for my business for travel purposes. Right now I only have a windows 7 desktop which I can't take with me when traveling.

I've already setup a Partition drive: E

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

I haven't read the links, but the easiest way is to get an image program such as macrium or paragon. Split your HD into two partitions. Make an image of your Windows 8 install, including the boot/mbr section. Install Windows 7 on the second partition and then put your image back. This will ensure you put the correct boot manager in.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.

The OP has uEFI, Secure Boot, gpt setup.

Also macrium or paragon Bootable live CD's, do not support uEFI, Secure Boot, gpt setup.

Thanks, I was hoping you replied to my post and you did. I really really appreciate it. I will be trying this as soon as I get home so that i can back to working officially. :D I made the recovery disk, backup and image last night by using my removable external mypassport drive. I hope that was sufficient for what you reference below in blue as far as OEM recovery disk and I also burned 1 copy of recovery disk on a dvd-rw disk as well.

I will keep all updated on status.

Theog, I did have one seperate question as i was trying to downgrade it last night but get stuck at step #4 (the one time boot menu doesn't come up when i press F12 and so i never get to step 5. i will try this again tonight based on starting from the top for the instrucations you posted in this post and continue from there. Last time, when i sort of started the dual boot, i got the partitions screen and never deleted anything, i just chose the partition i wanted to load to. so i can see i messed up there and will go back and redo.

You have no idea how excited & anxious I am to get dual boot on this laptop. As i know it will be easy on my desktop which already runs off win7.

So update, The dual boot has been unsucessful. I've tried to do it but Win7 won't take it or if it does its only partial and the computer begins restarting everytime i choose win7 from the dual boot OS menu. So i took the laptop to Geek Squad for them to dual boot. They had the same issue and even wiped the computer clean for clean install and found out the Toshiba laptop is installing windows 7 3x on the computer and not allowing it to run. I think i officially hate toshiba.

Theog or if anyone else knows is there a workaround for Toshiba Satellite laptops with dual booting issues for win7 (downgrade install).

Also if there isn't - will installing Win7 on a MyPassport 500GB external Hard drive work properly with the Toshiba Win8 laptop?

Did you do Step Three.
3) Reset BIOS to default, and reboot to BIOS make sure Secure Boot is disabled.
NOTE: Check your manufacturer's uEFI BIOS manual for settings.

I had to end up calling Toshiba Speciality tech, they took over the computer and were even having troubles with the dual boot smh. It took us 4.5 hrs just to get past all the error messages, secure boot, uEFI and etc. We finally got to the point where Windows 7 is installed. But now Toshiba is stuck at the win 8 install screen due to the new partition that was created under win 7 install isn't allowing us to move forward to install 8. Toshiba didn't even use the Backup/Recovery Disk or image i initally created as they had to google search to find a untouched IOS Win8 RTM which we finally found after 20 minutes of searching.

How do I get around the Partiation error for the Windows 8 install to be completed? Right now the Win7 had to be changed on CSM Boot for it to take. Tech had me change it back to UEFI for the Windows 8 but its like we are going around in circles. Toshiba tech is supposed to be calling me tonight at 6pm CST to finish this crazy dual boot situation as I got tired last night and asked them to stop so we could continue today. We stopped at 12:45 am (originally started at 7:15pm)

Please Help as I'm REALLY HATING TOSHIBA'S LAPTOP right about now

FYI to Toshiba Satellite laptop users, Toshiba does charge $99 to dual boot. They will only dual boot Windows products only. They also told me this is the first time they have ever seen issues like mines where the install disk freezes when booting or running into all these snags and so forth. I really hope i can get this dual boot going as my small business currently depends on it smh.
