Setting up a dual boot with Win 7x64 on a 120GB SSD. The partition for Win 8 has 48 GB, but the install is failing: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks." The first time I tried with the partition formatted, the second with it unallocated, both getting the same result. What am I missing? Thanks,

Many thanks for your succinct reply. My Z68 board's splash screen says it's Hybrid EFI, but the only thing I found with EFI was the "EFI CD/DVD Boot Option." I set that to non-EFI, set the CD first, the SSD with Win 7 second, and rolled the dice. Win 8 installed right off. I never got to any of the last paragraph with the Diskpart Clean command.

Thanks for that. It's not for today, given the normal install last night (plus, I'd want to prepare a couple of backup images in case something went wrong). One question: Where does that first screen come up?

Can you go into more details of how to fix problems. I have the same problem like Highstream member and was not able to fix.

My system is Lenovo H430 desktop. I was about to install with dual boot (windows 7 and 8), but Windows 8 was accidentally erased and I am unable to reinstall again.

How can I tell if my system is UEFI?

Thanks,

I take it, the Lenovo H430 desktop came with Windows 8 Preinstalled.

Note   Note

When dual booting with Windows 8 Preinstalled & Windows 7

Follow Step one to five in this tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/13326-downgrade-windows-8-windows-7-a.html

warning   Warning

Before making the partition for Windows 7, delete the OEM Recovery partition at the end of HDD drive.
If you shink C: before deleting the OEM Recovery partition, the C: & the new partition will be converted to Dynamic partitions.

Than follow this tutorial: (installing in uEFI mode.)
